A new technique for mandibular osteotomy
نویسنده
چکیده
Sagittal split osteotomy (SSO) is a surgical technique largely employed for mandibular mobilizations in orthognatic procedures. However, the traditional design of buccal osteotomy, located at the junction of mandibular ramus and body, may prevent more extensive sliding between the bone segments, particularly on the advance, laterality and verticality of the mandibular body. The author proposes a new technical and conceptual solution, in which osteotomy is performed in a more distal region, next to the mental foramen. Technically, the area of contact between medullary-cancellous bone surfaces is increased, resulting in larger sliding rates among bone segments; it also facilitates the use of rigid fixation systems, with miniplates and monocortical screws. Conceptually, it interferes with the resistance arm of the mandible, seen as an interpotent lever of the third gender.

Inferior Alveolar Nerve Damage Related to Mandibular Advancement by Sagittal Split Osteotomy
Background and Objectives: Split sagittal osteotomy is a common operation that may induce inferior alveolar nerve (IAN) damage, potentially leading to sensory deficit, numbness, and pain. Investigations in Iran to evaluate the adverse effects of sagittal split osteotomy surgery are rare so questions have been raised about the success rate of operatio...
متن کاملComplications of Bilateral Sagittal Split Osteotomy in Patients with Mandibular Prognathism
Introduction: Bilateral sagittal split osteotomy (BSSO) of mandible is vastly used in treatment of mandibular deficiencies and discrepancies. Since this method could affect esthetic as well as function, evaluating these effects from various aspects is crucial. This study assessed the effects of this technique on the function of masseter muscle, jaw movements, and sensory changes along with fail...

BACKGROUND A three-dimensionally favourable mandibular bone crest is desirable to be able to successfully implant placement to meet the aesthetic and functional criteria in the implant-prosthetic rehabilitation. Several surgical procedures have been advocated for bone augmentation of the atrophic mandible, and the sandwich osteotomy is one of these techniques. The aim of the present case report...

Statement of Problem:The choung osteotomy (Intraoral Vertico- Sagittal Ramus Osteotomy) has developed since 1992 in the treatment of mandibular prognathism. In IVSRO, osteotomy plane is theoretically parallel to the original sagittal plane and thereby attempting to decrease the incidence of condylar dispacement. This osteotomy designed additionally to decrease neurosensory disturbances.Purpose...
متن کاملChin wing osteotomy - a new facial concept
A new technique for an extended genioplasty, the mandibular wing osteotomy, is presented step by step. This osteotomy allows correcting the position of the chinprominence, to change the aspect of the divergence in the mandibular angulus and to achieve a lip competence in cases where it is needed. All these movements of the lower border of the mandibula can be performed completely independently ...
